Quick answer

Specialty Gutter Materials in Northeast Atlanta, GA: The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Northeast Atlanta installs gutters in colored aluminum, copper, galvanized steel and galvalume, in K-style or half-round, so you can match the trim, add a copper accent or pick the metal that lasts longest on your home. Call (770) 637-5130 or book online.

Plain white aluminum is the standard, but it is not your only option. Specialty materials let the gutter do more for the house: copper on a historic home in Marietta or Athens, galvalume to match a metal roof, colored aluminum that disappears against the trim of a newer home in Cumming. Every specialty material is available in K-style and half-round.

Copper, steel or colored aluminum: matching the metal to the house

Each specialty metal solves a different problem. Here is how the four compare, which homes in our territory each one suits, and where to read more about each.

Material choice usually starts with the house itself. An older home in one of the historic districts around Athens or Marietta asks for something different than a new two-story in Hoschton, a brick ranch in Tucker, or a lake house with a metal roof near Flowery Branch.

The second question is how long you plan to own it. Copper can outlast the roof above it. Colored aluminum gets you most of the look for far less. The two coated steels sit in between: tough, metallic and right for certain houses more than others.

Your Solutionist will walk the exterior with you and put more than one material in writing when more than one makes sense, so you can compare real prices instead of guessing.

Questions that settle the choice quickly

  • Is the roof metal? Galvalume gutters match it and keep you from mixing metals where they touch.
  • Do you want the color to change over time? Copper will. Galvalume and colored aluminum hold steady.
  • Do big pines or hardwoods hang over the roof? Steel stands up better to dropped limbs and heavy wet leaves.
  • Will you paint the gutters to match the trim? Galvanized takes paint. The others arrive finished.
  • Is the house historic or high end? Copper, often in half-round, is usually the right look.
  • Is budget the main limit? Colored aluminum in Copper Penny or Dark Bronze gets closest for the least.

Profile, size and finishing touches

Every material on this page comes in K-style or half-round, and our gutter styles guide shows how each profile changes the look of the house. Copper comes in 5 inch, 6 inch and larger, so a big roof does not have to give up capacity for looks. Rain chains, ornamental conductor heads, embossed gutters and rain barrels round out a specialty system. A conductor head is more than decoration: it holds the surge where a large section of roof drains to one downspout, which matters in a summer storm that drops an inch of rain in under an hour.

Specialty Gutter Questions, Answered

Which specialty gutter material is right for my home?

It depends on the look you want, your budget and how long you plan to stay. Colored aluminum is the practical choice for most homes. Copper is for homeowners who want the richest look and the longest life. Galvalume and galvanized steel bring strength and a metal finish. A Solutionist weighs budget, function and looks with you.

How does copper compare on lifespan?

Properly maintained copper gutters can last around 50 to 150 years, longer than any other gutter material on the market. Most other materials last around 10 to 30 years. Copper often outlasts the roof above it.

Which homes here suit copper gutters?

Historic and high-end homes wear copper best, along with homes finished in brick, stone, wood or slate. That makes it a natural fit for many of the older homes around Marietta, Athens and Watkinsville, and for larger brick homes in Johns Creek. Copper starts out a bright, gold metallic color and slowly forms a dark brown or green patina that also protects it.

What is the difference between galvalume and galvanized gutters?

Both are steel with a protective coating. Galvanized steel has a thin coat of zinc. Galvalume is coated in a mix of 55 percent aluminum and 45 percent zinc, which gives it a longevity that rivals copper at a lower price. Galvalume has a duller, gunmetal look that does not fade, while galvanized has a brighter mill finish and can be painted.

Can my gutters match a metal roof?

Yes. Galvalume started out as a roofing material, so it pairs naturally with a galvalume metal roof, and using the same metal for both avoids mixing alloys that can corrode where they touch. Whether it is a lake home near Gainesville or a farmhouse-style build out toward Jefferson, matching gutters finish the look.

Can I get the look of copper without the cost?

Yes. Copper-tone and dark bronze colored aluminum give a warm, rich roofline at a fraction of the price of real copper. You keep the light weight and rust resistance of aluminum, and because the color is applied at the factory, there is no repainting.

Will colored aluminum hold up to Georgia sun and humidity?

Yes. The color is a baked-on factory finish, not paint added after installation, so it resists fading, chipping and chalking through long, humid Georgia summers. Aluminum also does not rust, which counts in a climate where gutters stay wet for days after a tropical storm passes through.
