Northeast Atlanta Pollen Season Guide
What Atlanta’s pollen season does to your gutters
Metro Atlanta’s pollen season is measured, not guessed. Atlanta Allergy & Asthma runs the only pollen counting station in the Atlanta area certified by the National Allergy Bureau, and every day it posts the number of pollen grains in a cubic meter of air over the previous 24 hours. Its archive shows the same shape year after year: daily counts pass 100 in February, explode in late March and fade by the last week of April. On March 29, 2025 the station logged 14,801, the highest count it has recorded, with oak, pine, sycamore, sweet gum and birch leading the trees.
The count only measures what floats in the air. On your roof, the same canopy also drops oak tassels, spent pine needles and leftover sweetgum balls. Spring rain rinses the yellow dust off the shingles and into the trough, where it binds with the tassels into a dense mat that slows the outlets. When a gutter backs up, that yellow-green water spills over the front edge, streaks fascia and light siding, and splashes red clay against the foundation. We see it on homes from Gwinnett and North Fulton to Forsyth, East Cobb, Cherokee and the Athens area. A spring gutter cleaning booked after the drop clears it before summer storms arrive.
The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Northeast Atlanta is locally owned by Josh Bowie and based in Suwanee, with offices in Marietta, Ball Ground and Watkinsville. In pollen season we hand-clean troughs, flush and test every downspout, rehang runs that sag under wet debris, and fit pine needle gutter guards or BroGuard micro-mesh where trees hang over the roof. Where downspouts dump onto clay, we plan downspout drainage that carries the water away from the house. Every estimate is free and in writing.

Why the Brothers
Why Northeast Atlanta Homeowners Call the Brothers
We plan spring cleanings around the certified Atlanta count, so your gutters get cleared after the drop, not halfway through it.
Oaks, pines and sweetgums hang over roofs across Gwinnett, North Fulton, Forsyth and Cherokee. Fine mesh guards handle that load.
Pollen season overflow lands on red clay. We extend or bury downspouts so water leaves the house without staining it.

Going by the Atlanta Allergy & Asthma count, the area’s National Allergy Bureau certified station, daily totals first passed 100 on February 7 in 2025 and February 11 in 2026. The heaviest days usually land between March 20 and April 13, and the last day over 1,000 came on April 16, 2025 and April 15, 2026. By the final week of April both years, counts were back under 200.
Late April or early May, once the oak tassels have fallen and the daily count has dropped off. Cleaning in the middle of the peak only buys a few days, because the next yellow layer and the next round of tassels refill the trough. Clearing it after the drop, before summer thunderstorms, means the first big downpour runs to the outlets instead of over the front edge.
On its own, the dust mostly washes through. The trouble starts when rain carries it into a gutter already holding oak tassels and pine needles. The pollen binds that debris into a dense, wet mat that slows or blocks the outlet. In Gwinnett, North Fulton and Athens area yards under heavy oak and pine, that mat is often what causes the first overflow of the year.
No guard stops every grain of pollen, and we will not tell you otherwise. What BroGuard stainless micro-mesh does is keep oak tassels, pine needles and sweetgum balls on top of the gutter, so the fine dust has nothing to bind to and most of it rinses through in the next rain. Where Atlanta pines hang over the roof, our pine needle guards add the finer mesh those lots need.
Atlanta Allergy & Asthma posts the daily count on its website at atlantaallergy.com/pollen_counts, with a calendar of past months. It reports the number of pollen grains in a cubic meter of air over the previous 24 hours and names the top tree, grass and weed contributors. Its counting station is the only one in the Atlanta area certified by the National Allergy Bureau.
