Quick answer

Gutter Repair in Northeast Atlanta, GA: The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Northeast Atlanta handles dripping seams, runs that sag or pull apart, hangers that have let go, crushed or detached downspouts and the wood behind the gutter. When a patch will not last, we put in a new section, and most repairs wrap up in a single visit. Call (770) 637-5130 or book online.

Gutters exist to catch roof water and move it clear of the house before it does damage. The problems we see most around Northeast Atlanta are leaking seams, sagging runs, overflow and water pooling against the foundation, and in red clay that pooling turns into damp crawlspaces and stained brick quickly. On the 1960s to 1980s brick ranch homes in Tucker, Lilburn and Norcross, older sectional gutters and spike and ferrule hangers are often the first things to give out.

Repair, cleaning, gutter guards and new installation all fit together, so a Solutionist looks at the whole system before recommending a fix.

The quieter signs your gutters need repair, and what each fix involves

Drips and sags are easy to spot. The damage a failing gutter does down on the ground is easier to miss. Here is what to look for, and how we handle each kind of repair.

Most people notice a gutter problem from the driveway: a run hanging off the house, a downspout lying in the bed. The more expensive problems show up lower down. A failing gutter drops water in the same place every storm, and over a few seasons that turns into a trench in the mulch, peeling paint at the bottom of the siding, a garage door going soft at the base or a patio slab starting to crack.

Red clay makes those signs easier to read than in most places. Splash from an overflowing gutter leaves orange stains on brick and siding, and clay that washes out leaves a clear line in the landscaping right under the leak. Follow that line up and you have usually found the seam, corner or sag that needs attention.

When we come out, we find the cause before we quote the fix. The drip is the symptom. The reason is almost always one of four things: a seam, a lost pitch, a loose hanger or the wood behind it.

Resealedseams, corners and end caps that drip
Re-pitchedruns that hold water instead of draining
Rehungon hidden hangers in solid wood
Replacedsections that a patch will not save

Subtle signs a gutter is failing

  • Lines or small trenches in the landscaping below the roof edge.
  • Mold or mildew on the wall under a gutter.
  • Soft deck boards, windowsills, door bottoms or garage doors below the roofline.
  • Washed-out mulch beds with orange clay splashed onto the brick.
  • Cracking or heaving in sidewalks, patios, driveways or steps.
  • Paint flaking early near the base of the house.
  • Dips or back pitch you can see when you sight down the run.
  • Nail heads backing out of the front of the gutter.

Common repairs and what they involve

ProblemWhat we doWhen we would suggest replacing instead
Dripping seam or cornerClean and reseal the joint, or swap a split cornerWhen seams leak every few feet along a sectional run
Sag or back pitchRehang the run on new hidden hangers at the right slopeWhen the run is bent or kinked along its length
Spike and ferrule hangers backing outReplace them with screwed-in hidden hangersWhen the fascia behind them is rotted along the wall
Downspout pulled loose or crushedReattach it, or replace the section and its elbowsRarely; this is almost always a straight repair
Overflow mid-run in every stormAdd a downspout, or upsize that one sectionWhen the whole system was undersized for the roof

When rot turns up behind a sagging run, fascia board repair comes first so the new hangers have something to grip. When the seams have simply given out, seamless gutters formed on site leave no joints along the run to fail again, and stepping up a section to 6 inch gutters fixes overflow that no amount of patching will.

After a big storm

Late-summer and fall tropical storm remnants, summer cloudbursts and the occasional winter ice storm all test gutters here, and a falling limb can do in a second what years of weather could not. After any storm that damaged your roof, look at the gutters too: dents, pulled hangers, split corners and downspouts knocked loose. If hail or storm damage is involved, call your insurance company and consider having us and your roofer look at the house together, since the two usually get assessed side by side. If you are replacing damaged gutters anyway, a mesh guard made of thicker material than the gutter itself adds protection for the next storm. If the trouble is simply a clogged outlet, a gutter cleaning with downspout flushing is the faster, cheaper fix.

Gutter Repair Questions, Answered

My gutter overflows halfway along the run. Is it clogged?

Probably not. When water spills partway down the run or at the end farthest from the downspout, the cause is usually the gutter itself: the slope is off, it is undersized for that roof section, it needs another downspout, or it has sagged away from the fascia. Spilling right next to the downspout points to a blockage, and a cleaning usually takes care of that.

Are leaking gutter seams worth repairing?

Usually, yes. Seams, corners and end caps can be resealed, and we will be honest when a run has so many joints that patching becomes a habit. If seams drip all along the house, seamless gutters formed on site are the lasting fix, because nothing in the middle of the run is left to fail.

What does spike and ferrule mean, and why does it matter?

It is an older way to hang gutters: a long spike goes through the front of the gutter, through a sleeve called a ferrule, and into the fascia. If yours were hung that way, they are probably about 20 years old, and the board behind them may well be rotting. A nail head backing out of the gutter means the system is pulling loose, something we find often on older homes around Stone Mountain and Tucker.

How long should gutters last before they need replacing?

Gutters that were installed properly and then kept clean, kept on a maintenance plan or covered with guards should last up to 30 years. Neglected gutters usually fail somewhere between 10 and 15. Around here, years of packed pine needles and wet leaves holding water in the trough are what usually cut that life short.

Can an ice storm damage my gutters?

It can. Ice storms are not frequent in North Georgia, but when one comes through, the weight of ice in a gutter can pull hangers loose or bend a run, especially if leaves were already holding water in it. We rehang and re-pitch damaged runs, and for rooflines that ice up again and again we can talk about heated gutters.

Can repairs be finished in one visit?

Most can. A Solutionist inspects the whole system and writes up the estimate, and the crew handles seams, sags, hangers and downspouts, swapping in new sections where a patch would not last. If you are worried about the next storm, call (770) 637-5130 and tell us what you are seeing.

Why the Brothers

Why East Cobb and Gwinnett Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Repairs by installers

The people fixing your gutters hang new systems all the time, so they know how a run should pitch and hang. They find the cause, not only the drip.

02No upsell reflex

Solutionists are not salespeople. If a few new hangers and resealed corners will keep your gutters working for years, that is what the estimate says.

03Close by when it breaks

Josh Bowie’s team runs four local offices, so a pulled downspout in Lilburn or a sagging run in Marietta is never far from a crew.

04Every review is public

We publish every review, good or bad, because that is how you should judge a repair company. We hold to that the same way the brand has since brothers Ken and Ryan Parsons started it in 1999.
